The Creator Tends

TODAY’S AUTHOR: MNL

THEME: The Creator Tends

VERSE: “And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season…” Psalm 1:3a AMP

FROM THE VERSE: Trees and/or nature in general are commonly used as a metaphor for us humans all through out the scriptures. However, the key word for me in this verse was the word “tended.” Tended is defined as,

  • listen
  • to pay attention: apply oneself
  • to act as attendant: serve

It is this concept of that the Lord tends to us that caught my attention. The Lord does not just plant us, but rather He plants us in a very specific location where we will be fed and are expected to flourish. But He doesn’t stop there! Plants cannot be planted and watered once and be expected to reach their full potential! They need to be tended to. The Creator is saying that He sits with you and listens to everything you have to say. He pours every ounce of energy into you and washes your feet, making sure that His streams of living water wash over you abundantly. He makes every effort for you to know that He calls you Mine and that He loves you! So allow yourself to be tended by the Creator. Let Him pull your weeds and water you tenderly. And I pray that you would fully blossom in this New Year, as the Creator tends to you.

Pray as the Spirit leads.

The Greatest Commandment

AUTHOR: PE

THEME: The Greatest Commandment

KEY VERSES:

1 John 5:3

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.

John 14:23

‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching’

Galatians 5:14

For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “love your neighbour as yourself.”

Romans 13:8

… for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law

Matthew 22:37-40

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Matthew 5:44

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you

John 13:34-35

‘As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another’

MESSAGE:

So last Monday we asked what is the most important command. That was to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. But how do we do that? We know that we need to seek him first and make him a priority, but how do we actually love him? How do we love a God we can’t see or touch, how can we love a God who is Spirit?

This question is answered in our first two verses, 1 John 5:3 and John 14:23. This is love for God: to obey his commands. So to love God we must obey him. Sounds easy, but there are so many commands we can’t focus on them all, all of the time! There must be one we can concentrate on? To find the answer we simply need to look at our second two verses: Galatians 5:14 and Romans 13:8. Love one another. If we love each other then we will keeping the entire law! Think about it, if we love someone we wont steal from them, we won’t lie to them, or hurt them. If we love, then we will be keeping all of Gods commands. You see how loving God (keeping his commands) is very similar to loving others (his command to us!). You can not separate loving God and loving your neighbour. That is why Matthew 22:37-40 says that the first and greatest commandment (love God) is like the second greatest commandment (love your neighbour), the two commandments cannot be separated. To love God is to love others. 1 John 4:20 ‘whoever claims to love God and yet hates a brother or sister is a liar.’

So, it is clear if we want to love God and put him first, we must love others and put them first. Doing one is doing the other. But who exactly are we to love? This final question is answered in Matthew 5:43-48. Obviously even the most evil people can love those who love them; we are not called to just love those who love us, but everyone, even our enemies! That means loving the person who stole your parking space, the person who cut ahead of the cue, and the person who fouls you playing football. Even the person who hates you, who rejects you and tries to ruin your life. Love them, and in doing this you will please God who loved you despite your rejection of him (Romans 5:8).

PRAY: Please Lord fill us with your Holy Spirit today so that you may show us how to love. Help us to see others through your eyes.

Help us to see your creation as you see it: people more precious than the universe. Fill our hearts with your love so that we may go and love others as you have loved us. That way those people will come to know you, and your kingdom will come on earth.

This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the Earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.

MESSAGE:

– We can see David’s single motive in asking God to fight the Philistine on his behalf was that through his triumph over Goliath spread God’s fame across the global and all world to worship God. The Ultimate Mentors Message

TODAY’S AUTHOR: MNL

THEME: The Ultimate Mentors Message

VERSE: “Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:7-8

“So now I charge you in the sight of all Israel and of the assembly of the Lord, and in the hearing of our God: Be careful to follow all the commands of the Lord your God, that you may possess this good land and pass it on as an inheritance to your descendants forever. And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house as the sanctuary. Be strong and do the work.”………“David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished.”

1 Chronicles 28:8-10; 20

FROM THE VERSE: I find it fascinating how two of the closest people to God passed along the same message to the person their were mentoring about the task that the Lord has asked of them. Both Moses and David had been given a promise from the Lord. Moses was given the promise of the Promise Land, while David was given the promise of building the temple. However, various circumstances that occurred along the way forced both Moses and David to pass on the promise to someone below. For Moses it was Joshua and David it was his son Solomon. As both prepared these men to carry out this promise of the Lord, the message was very similar can be summarized as following.

  1. Be Strong and Courageous.

This is mentioned multiple times, emphasizing the importance of it. This means putting on your armor and trusting in the victory of the Lord. It also requires knowing that the Lord is with you, and having the boldness to move forward without knowing all of the answers to where and why.

  1. The Lord is with you

Both mentors are careful to consistently remind these men that the Lord is with them. Its like they are pleading with them as if it is their dying wishes that they fully believe this. They have lived life long enough to know that their will be times where these men might question if the Lord is really there, but you need to believe that He is there. It is a promise that He will never leave us or forsake us.

  1. Seek, Serve and Know the Lord with your WHOLE heart

If you know the Lord, then be carful to keep His commandments. By seeking and knowing the Lord, this should make us want to serve Him even more.

  1. Be Obedient

This is where we all seem to struggle. We reach this to a certain point, but then it always seems that pride somehow always gets in the way. Serving the Lord requires humility, and that is something we are not always good at.

I believe that this ultimate mentors message is for us too! The Lord is constantly whispering to us this message and encouraging us to put into action, because this is at the very center of His heart.

Pray in line with the Spirit asking the Lord to become more like Him. Know the Lord and seek Him with your WHOLE heart. In this act, let His presence overwhelm you and fuel you with all strength, wisdom and courage. And through all of this, I pray that humbly we would be obedient and not let pride win.

True Peace Is Possible

TODAY’S AUTHOR: SN

THEME: TRUE PEACE IS POSSIBLE

KEY VERSE: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15 (NIV)

MESSAGE: Growing up, my grandfather had a philosophy when life became hectic. He would cross his arms over his chest, and in a joking kind of way say, “There will never be any peace until we are all laid to rest.” I knew what he meant. Life is hard. And sometimes it is easy to despair over finding peace when trouble seems to lurk around every corner. When hard times come, many emotions rule my heart and mind. Like my grandfather, peace is usually the emotion I sense the least when life turns topsy-turvy. But this is not God’s plan. Peace is God’s will. Heavenly peace is a state of tranquility or quiet amidst anxious thoughts and emotions. It speaks of freedom from external pressures. The kind of peace God gives remains. It is not something that comes and goes depending on our circumstances. Divine peace should govern our lives in all things at all times. When the things of life haunt us — that stack of bills, new tyres for the car, anxious feelings of inadequacy — don’t we long for peace? Here is the good news: We can have that kind of peace. Jesus told His disciples, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27, NIV).

Jesus is not talking about the kind of peace we feel when a debt is finally paid.

That is relief. It is not the kind of peace we experience when we can purchase that big

house we have always wanted. That is gratification. The peace Christ gives is fully satisfying. It is peace of mind, heart, body and soul. It is contentment knowing that no matter what happens, you are in the care of the Almighty.

Sadly, it’s my selfish nature that tries to obtain peace by my own efforts. Perhaps you are like me. We try to persuade God with promises. We even attend church more often than usual. We think: If I follow all the rules and do the things that please God most, then maybe I will find some peace. In the end, we are working at peace instead of resting in it. This reveals one thing: My trust is in myself instead of in God. In other words, I put my trust in what I can do, not what God is truly capable of doing. The Bible has something to say about putting our trust in someone other than God: “He who trusts in himself is a fool, but one who walks in wisdom will be safe” (Proverbs 28:26, HCSB). If we do not actively seek God’s help when we are afraid or facing trouble, we are probably trusting in our own RESOURCES and ABILITIES. Therefore, Isaiah warns, “Don’t put your trust in mere humans” (Isaiah 2:22a, NLT). Doing so often leaves us DISAPPOINTED and DEFEATED. In times of doubt and fear, let peace rule. Resting in God’s promises give us the hope we need to stay FOCUSED on Him and His FAITHFULNESS, instead of on our circumstances. One way we can be certain that we have

really placed our trust in God is when we experience an INDESCRIBABLE PEACE. Let this promise from the Lord reassure you today from Isaiah 26:3, (NLT) “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”

PRAYER: Dear God, I know peace is Your will for my life. Help me to trust You with my worries and rest in Your care, not my own abilities, when life gets tough. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

DO All In And With Geniune Love

AUTHOR: JIFAN

THEME: DO ALL IN AND WITH GENIUNE LOVE

MAIN VERSE: 1 Corinthians 13:2-3 (NIV)

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[a] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

MESSAGE: As good as all the gifts the main verse talks about, without love they do you and i no good. Paul declares that the greatest expression of spirituality is love. When we are exercising our spiritual gifts love must be the motive and center. Do you do what you do out of genuine love for God and people? Do you serve out of a sense of obligation? Do you serve because of the satisfaction you get from it? Do you do what you do because it helps you to win people’s attention? CHOOSE TO DO ALL THINGS IN AND WITH GENIUNE LOVE TO GOD’S GLORY

Lets pray and desire to continue growing in our love for God and people. love is an action, not an emotion. Express love in your actions, attitude and behavior to God’s glory! through Him we can live it

!THINK ABOUT IT!

[without genuine love I say nothing, I am nothing, and I gain nothing.]

When I Don’t Know What To Say To God

TODAY’S AUTHOR: SN

THEME: WHEN I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO SAY TO GOD

KEY VERSE: ” the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26 (NKJV).

MESSAGE: For all of us, there are moments when words simply do not describe how we feel, what we need or what we so desperately desire from God.

Romans 8:26 reminds us there is someone who has studied us. The Holy Spirit knows us well. He is aware of our strengths, but He’s also keenly tuned in to our weaknesses. When we are unable to express in words what we hope for so desperately need, the Spirit Himself steps in and clearly places our deepest needs before the Father. I don’t know about you, but that removes pressure that would otherwise weigh you down.

We don’t have to have the right words. We don’t have to know the exact details of what is needed in a situation. We don’t have to try to explain how it makes us feel. He already knows.

Today, if you have no words, be encouraged. When you step into that place of prayer, the Holy Spirit sees your heart. He understands what you want to say, even when it’s still a mystery to you. The moment you place your trust in God, your deepest needs are already being shared perfectly with all the right words.

PRAYER: Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. I might have no words, or struggle to tell You what I need, but You already know. I’m so grateful the Holy Spirit knows my heart, and intercedes for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Think Of The Children!

AUTHOR: SM

THEME: Think Of The Children!

KEY VERSE:

Mark 10:13-16 (NIV)

The Little Children and Jesus

13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.

FROM THE VERSE:

Today I’d like to remind ourselves about the importance of reaching out to the kids!

Today’s children are tomorrow’s society and also believers. As we read in the verse, Jesus cared for them and blessed them and even used their example to preach something.

We should look after our own children or those that live around us, that we share the love of Christ with them. When I think how great it would have been if I had understood the message of the bible, I want to be serious in explaining it to the kids in my family and to my future children!

The other (major) topic of the verse is, to have faith like a child. Don’t only teach them, try to learn from them also. Sometimes it is better to just do things like a child would do, rather than thinking about every possible outcome.

Trust in God, like a kid trusts his loving father and you will see blessings at the end, because God only wants the best for you and me.

I want to encourage you, look and pray for the possibilities to share Jesus with little ones around you. Let the Lord use you to lead some of them to him!

Pray for the Children in your family and community and nation. Identify one Children you can start impacting for Jesus. Jesus wants all the Children here, there and everywhere to be DISCIPLED. Therefore, BE INVOLVED!

God’s Image Bearers

TODAY’S AUTHOR: PE

THEME: God’s Image Bearers

VERSES: Genesis 1:27

‘So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.’

MESSAGE:

I’m sure you all know that you were created in God’s Image, but what does that mean?

When Genesis was written there was a huge variety of different gods and a wide variety of beliefs about the origin of the earth and the purpose of mankind. To worship these imaginary gods people made idols or images of what they thought the god looked like. These idols would have been made from wood, stone, Gold etc and hence would have been deaf, dumb, mindless objects. The idols were said to be made in the IMAGE of that god. A religious ceremony would have then been held inviting the god’s spirit into the idol before it was worshipped as a deity. I.e. the idol made by human hands was the vessel that would then house the gods spirit, this enabled people to worship their god through a tangible, solid object.

I am sure you are now realising how revolutionary and extreme Genesis was to the people of that time: not only was there one true and all powerful God that spoke mankind and all creation into being, but also humans were made in His image. We were created to be the containers of God, to house His spirit. There was no need to make idols to worship God as before the Fall of mankind Adam and Eve housed his spirit, they were able to speak to Him directly and live in intimate relationship with him. Sin of course corrupted humanity, ruined that relationship and caused us to no longer look like Christ.

However we are still created in His image, we are still designed to house his spirit and represent him on this earth.

As Christians this verse carries a very serious responsibility. We are created to be the image bearers of God in this world. The only way we can fully achieve this is by housing his spirit through Christ who deals with our sin. We must not grieve the Spirit but live in its flow, then we may finally reflect God on earth. We are ambassadors for Christ, the salt and light in this world: Matthew 5:13-16.

PRAY: Teach us Lord to live in the flow of your spirit so that we may be more as you created us to be. Teach us so we may live in this world as you intended and bring you glory.
